In what areas can my mentor offer assistance?

Your mentor can:

  • Offer technical advice to tackle challenges you’re currently stuck on.
  • Share their experiences, providing a benchmark for your own journey and guiding you in your career or technical problem-solving.
  • Be available to discuss coding or career-related issues when time permits.
  • Assist you in overcoming code-related obstacles by not necessarily giving the answer but helping you navigate the immediate hurdles, allowing you to continue problem-solving independently.
What is required of me in the role of a mentee?
    • Make a sincere effort to independently solve problems before seeking assistance.
    • When posing questions, ensure they are well-formulated. This involves outlining your attempts, detailing potential solutions, and providing any insights into the issue. Acknowledge that your mentor is generously offering their time, so utilize it efficiently.
    • When receiving answers, attentively listen and earnestly attempt to follow the advice given, even if it may not initially align with your desired solution. While questioning proposed solutions is acceptable, recognize that seeking guidance implies encountering a challenge, and embracing the advice may lead to a new perspective you hadn’t considered.
